Thank you to all who participated in our Happenings Fundraiser. Fundraisers are optional and a great way to provide pluses for our kids at Howard R. Driggs. This year our focus is to finish installing Audio Enhancement in grades K-1. We sold enough books to provide another grade level with Audio Enhancement. Thanks!! Sally Foster sales will begin October 17th, and the funds will be used to hopefully complete the Audio Enhancement System, and also provide opportuinities for students through dance, and student and staff enrichment.

We will continue our B.U.G. program again this year. B.U.G. stands for Bringing Up Grades. Teachers choose two to three students to sit at the B.U.G. table once a month and eat lunch with Principal Thomas. This program reinforces a student's good examples and academic excellence.

School Community Council (S.C.C.) met September 15, and discussion was held regarding the possiblitiy of hiring 1/2 FTE (Full Time Employee) for the first grade from the remaining Trustland Funds. After the discussion, a motion was made and passed to fund this. The Granite School District will fund the other 1/2, which will give the 1st grade a new teacher. Our new teacher is Heidi Baer who is also the 2006-2007 Driggs PTA President. Thank you, Heidi, for going above and beyond your duty (as is the case with so many of our parents and teachers). Howard R. Driggs really is a great place to be!! Our next meeting will be October 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the Driggs Faculty Room. All S.C.C. meetings are open meetings and the minutes are posted on our webpage. Our focus this year is on Literacy, Numeracy, and Science.

We are planning on having our Halloween Parade outside again this year if weather permits. Please watch for the flyer that explains the guidelines for our Halloween Parade.

Please drop students off in a safe designated area. Allowing them to cross 27th East and the pull through area is extremely dangerous. Take the time to use the pull through in front of the school which has been designated as a drop-off zone for our students.
